LAS VEGAS, NV – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officially unveiled 10 Cybertrucks from Tesla, which will be integrated into the patrol fleet. Sheriff Kevin McMahill revealed these high-tech vehicles on Tuesday, October 28, at an event held at the Otonomus Hotel.
A key highlight of the presentation was that the 10 vehicles were acquired at no cost to taxpayers. The total expense was covered by a “generous donation” from Ben and Felicia Horowitz. The funds from this donation also financed the equipment necessary for the vehicles’ police use.
The Cybertrucks will be assigned to patrol officers, with one allocated to each area command across the valley. They will be equipped with “essential tactical tools to assist” officers during critical service calls, including barricade situations and shootings.
The introduction of these vehicles is part of a broader effort by Sheriff McMahill, who has prioritized transforming the LVMPD into the “most technologically advanced police department in the country” since his election. This initiative complements other recent advancements, such as the Joint Emergency Training Institute, the First Response Drone Unit, and the use of remotely operated drones.
LVMPD expressed gratitude to Unplugged Performance and Upfit for outfitting the vehicles for patrol functions and to Ink and Architectural Expo for the wrapping of the Cybertrucks.
The presentation took place at the Otonomus Hotel, located at 5050 West Russell Road, described as the world’s first truly AI-driven sustainable hotel, featuring 180 hotel suites and 120 private residential units.
