ALICE, TX — Martin Cantu, an official from Hidalgo County, is under investigation and has been charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) following a single-vehicle accident on SH 44, just west of San Diego, that occurred in the early hours of November 8, between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m.
Cantu was transported to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice, although confirmation is pending regarding whether he was subsequently moved to another medical facility.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be pursuing charges of driving under the influence against Cantu.
An ongoing investigation aims to fully determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
