Father Joe’s Villages: Celebrating Hunger Awareness Week in San Diego

San Diego, CAFather Joe’s Villages celebrated the “Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week” with a community food distribution event held on Friday, November 21st.

Staff and volunteers from the shelter, including those from the University of San Diego School of Law, distributed essential non-perishable food packages. Residents in need received rice, beans, canned fish, fruits, milk, nuts, and cheese as part of their packages.

The event underscored the growing need in San Diego, where one in four residents faces food insecurity. These levels have not been seen since the pandemic, according to the San Diego Hunger Coalition.

This year alone, the organization has assisted individuals in finding permanent housing and provided nearly 900,000 meals through food packages and dining services.

During the event on Friday, an estimated 300 food packages were distributed to the most vulnerable residents of San Diego.
