Harry Reid Airport Faces Flight Cancellations Amid Ongoing Federal Shutdown

Las Vegas, NV – The Harry Reid International Airport is witnessing a significant number of flight cancellations this Friday due to new federal restrictions implemented amid an ongoing government shutdown that has now lasted for 38 days.

The airport has reported 19 outgoing flights and 17 incoming flights canceled. The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed that Harry Reid Airport is among 40 airports experiencing reduced flight operations to ensure the safety of the airspace.

Among the airlines affected, Southwest has recorded a total of 32 cancellations, while United, SkyWest, American, JetBlue, and Delta are reporting four or fewer cancellations each. Southwest Airlines has stated that these cancellations are preemptive measures, representing only a minor fraction of their daily schedule. They are also currently managing Saturday’s flights, anticipating fewer than 100 cancellations.

Airlines are actively sharing updates on their social media platforms: some are rescheduling flights, while others are offering refunds. For future flight information, passengers are advised to visit their airline’s website or social media pages, where updates are continuously provided.

The Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, emphasized that the current measures are not politically motivated. “We are assessing data and mitigating risks while air traffic controllers continue to work without pay,” he stated. According to Duffy, flying remains safe thanks to these proactive measures.

On Friday, flight reductions will start at 4% and are expected to increase to 6% by November 11, 8% by November 13, and 10% by November 14. Air traffic controllers have been working without wages since the shutdown commenced in October.
