In a dedicated effort to enhance community safety, the Laredo Police Department’s Special Victims Unit, in collaboration with the US Marshals and various LPD patrol divisions, launched a three-day operation named ‘Operation Safe Holiday’, focusing on monitoring registered sex offenders across the city.
During these surprise visits, comprehensive compliance inspections were conducted at both residences and workplaces. This initiative builds upon daily check-ins and scheduled evaluations as mandated by the regulations governing registered sex offenders.
Out of the 93 registered offenders in Laredo, four violations were discovered, which are currently under investigation for possible legal repercussions.
This proactive operation was executed prior to the holiday celebrations, aiming to ensure adherence to the law and to keep family gatherings and visits secure.
Authorities remind all registered sex offenders of the importance of following legal requirements, especially when planning to travel. Offenders intending to be away for more than seven days must inform the supervising law enforcement agency of their parole. Additionally, those planning to travel outside the country are required to provide notification 21 days before their anticipated departure date.
