Poway, CA – On Tuesday, voters in Poway cast their ballots in a special election to determine the fate of consejal Tony Blain of District 2, who faced allegations of corruption.
Blain has been accused of serious misconduct, including vote buying, intimidation of fellow Council members, and attempts to use the Sheriff’s Department to silence critics.
Elected just last year, Blain’s term has been marred by controversy and internal grievances. Court documents also reveal he allegedly attempted to dismiss officials who opposed him. A court hearing was scheduled for Monday but was postponed as he is currently out of the country.
Preliminary results indicate that 80 percent of voters support Blain’s removal. The final tally may take several days due to mail-in ballots and turnout. Nevertheless, the decision on Blain’s future seems clear, with many hoping it will restore stability to local governance.
*UPDATE:
On Wednesday, consejal Tony Blain resigned from his position after a majority of voters opted for a revocation election.
As of 3:55 PM Wednesday, 80.27% of Poway voters had cast “YES” for removal, while only 19.73% voted “NO”. It is notable that 39.7% of total ballots have been counted thus far.
